Olympus Stylus Tough 8000
The Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 will be hitting stores in February, just in time for warmer weather and lots of outdoor camera abuse. The Stylus T8000 is rated to be “crushproof” for up to 220 pounds of pressure, 33 feet of water, and a 6.6-foot drop—which out to satisfy just about anyone who isn’t starring in a “Get Smart” movie. The Stylus Tough 8000 comes with some other great features too, including a 28mm wide-angle, 3.6X optical zoom lens; an Intelligent Auto Mode that optimizes settings based on the shooting environment; in-camera panorama stitching; a 2.7-inch-diagonal LCD; dual optical/digital image stabilization; and face detection.
The camera also features Olympus’s Tap Control system, which lets you smack the top and sides of the camera to turn on the flash and adjust its settings—a great feature if you happen to be wearing mittens. The idea is to present a camera that will hold up to just about any kind of outdoor activity and still deliver great shots. The Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 will retail for right around $400.
