Olympus Stylus Tough
Olympus is rebranding its popular Stylus SW digital camera to Stylus Tough. Olympus wants to focus on the waterproof, shock-proof nature of the Stylus line and gain larger market share on outdoor cameras through rebranding. With more and more people engaged in active and extreme sports and other vigorous outdoor activities, camera companies are scrambling to become the brand of choice for digital cameras that take great clear photos and still hold up to weather, water, and temperature changes.
The Olympus Stylus Tough camera line debuts in January 2009 and will include various levels of durability and toughness priced accordingly. Recent studies suggest that many camera customers look for toughness and durability in a digital camera, even though these features are rarely stressed. Olympus is looking to impress upon customers that a camera that lacks the features of being waterproof, shockproof, and freezeproof is not tough at all, this corning this market niche.
