Olympus and Matsushita Bring Micro Four Thirds System

Partnerships have served as a base of many strong and successful teams.Olympus Imaging Corporation (Olympus Imaging) and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic) are working in a joint venture to develop technologies and devices for the "Micro Four Thirds System standard".
This innovative system is an enhancement to the existing Four Thirds System standard for the interchangeable lens type digital camera systems. The digital cameras produced through the revolutionary micro technology will boast a smaller body lighter in weight than present DLSR cameras. These cameras are being developed to provide features of bulkier, heavier and comsplicated cameras in an easier way within a compact outlook.
Olympus Imaging and Panasonic have already introduced products based on the FourThirds System standard to include Live View and contrast-detection autofocusing systems in the interchangeable lens type digital camera systems. Expanding the project with the new range of Micro Four Thirds System products the companies aim at delivering unmatched qualities to their customers. The key points of the Micro Four Thirds System comprise of:
- Approximately 50% shorter flangeback distance (mount-to-sensor distance)
- 6mm smaller lens mount outer diameter
- Electrical contacts in mount increased from 9 to 11
