Omnivision Launches New CameraChip Censor

Check out your camera phone and see if you can upgrade the quality of photos you take. Apparently thanks to Omnivision Technologies, the launch of the OV2650, its third generation 2-megapixel CameraChip sensor offers improved quality photo solutions for default camera phone capacities.

The sensor features OmniPixel3 technology, and brings the performance of digital still cameras (DSC) to the camera phone market.

The OV2650 comes in a 1/5-inch optical format, which is compact enough to allow existing 1.3-megapixel and VGA camera phone designs to be easily upgraded.

The sensor combines OmniVision’s proprietary 1.75-micron OmniPixel3 technology with advanced image signal processing (ISP). This provides excellent performance in low-light conditions (520mV/lux-sec).

Features:

  • Anti-shake technology
  • High dynamic range (HDR) for advanced video functionality (85dB)
  • High-speed mobile industry processor interface (MIPI) to allow pictures to be easily shared
  • High-end ISP to provide performance of digital still camera quality
  • The OV2650 sensor is available for sampling and is scheduled for volume production in the first quarter of calendar 2008.
