Omnivision Releases AutoVision OV9715 Imaging Sensor for Cars
One thing that has made driving easier these days is the advent of imaging assistants. The part of new technology that has made its way into the automotive scene are imaging solutions that have aided motorists in parking and navigation, something which was not available before.
And now, Omnivision unveils the OV9715 camera. This is a 1 megapixel image sensor made for automotive imaging applications. It is optimized for use in automotive vision and sensing systems, features that we all see common in today’s modern cars.
“Megapixel resolution is critical for multi-camera systems with extreme wide angle (>160 degrees) lenses where distortion correction and image stitching are required,” said Inayat Khajasha, senior automotive product marketing manager at OmniVision. “Lower resolution camera systems cannot handle electronic distortion correction without a considerable loss of image resolution, which can seriously compromise driver and passenger safety.”
At the moment, this new imaging sensor is undergoing sampling. However, with volume productions set to go underway, they are expected to be out in the market by the third quarter of this year.
