Panasonic HDC-TM60K Camcorder Review–Pricey But Potent

Panasonic has once again put out a camcorder that’s long on quality features but terribly short on value with the release of their HDC-TM60K, a camcorder that costs quite a bit more than you’ll likely want to spend, and that reinforces the concept that, if you’re looking for a camcorder, you’ll do well to shop around.

The Panasonic HDC-TM60K camcorder offers a 16x optical zoom with matching 1000x digital zoom, a 2.7″ LCD widescreen touch-screen display, advanced optical image stabilization, the proprietary magicPix night recording technology, intelligent auto to select settings according to needs on the field, 1.17 megapixel still capability, two channel stereo speaker with a Dolby Digital decoder and zoom microphone, eight gigs of onboard memory with compatibility with the Secure Digital line of memory cards, USB, HDMI and editing software.

Right away you can tell that this camera has a nice quality spec sheet, and you likely wouldn’t be able to tell from looking but the controls are nicely laid out and the zoom does seem to clear at least fifty feet.  But none of those are the problem here–the problem is the price tag.  This one goes for a whopping five hundred bucks (and on sale, no less) out at Best Buy.

Now, while you’re going to get plenty of options for that five hundred–Intelligent Auto and night shooting are no small things–I really don’t see where the five hundred bucks is a fair price.  But if you want a good tech loadout and you’re not too concerned about price then the Panasonic HDC-TM60K is going to be a good buy for you.
