A Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1
Digital Camera Review has done an in-depth analysis of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 and like it for its fast focusing, its minimal shutter lag, its image stabilization engine, its ergonomically designed body, its flash and its bright LCD. What they didn’t like was the digicams ability to produce noisy images at higher ISOs and the battery life was disappointing too.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 has a 2.5-inch Polycrystalline TFT Color LCD with 207,000 pixels and weighs around 262 g. It has a 5 MP CCD Sensor and an impressive 10x optical zoom lens (35-to-105mm, 35mm equivalent). The TZ1 sports a retractable lens system with folded optics aided by the inclusion of a prism and has a two-fold system for battling both hands shake and subject movement. Like all Lumix series the TZ1 features the MEGA O.I.S which results in stable images even at high shutter speeds. Movie modes include VGA (640 x 480 pixels) and wide-aspect (848 x 480 pixels)--both offering a 30fps rate and the he High Angle LCD option lows viewing/framing of pictures at difficult overhead angles.
In the end the website concludes "Bottom line, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is a joy to use, but with a few downsides. It's an easy to use camera and has a nice 10x optical zoom with image stabilization, especially given its size. A nice set of scene modes provides plenty of options for the casual shooter. The camera's focus speed, cycle time, and quick click to capture speed are among the best around. On the downside, Panasonic continues to fight with noise in their images with some pretty heavy in-camera noise reduction that is evident in higher ISO images."
