Camera Review: Pentax Optio W20

OPTIO_W20-1.jpgTrusted Reviews have reviewed the Pentax Optio W20 and like it for its affordable price, its compact form factor its waterproof and dust-proof casing and its decent picture quality. However images at high ISOs were very noisy and they wished that the digicam was shock-proof too!

The Optio W20 has an effective resolution of 7 Megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD with non-glare coating. When it comes to zoom capabilities, the camera doesn’t disappoint and features a 3X optical zoom lens with a focal length of 6.3 to 18.9mm (equivalent to 38 to 114 mm for 35mm film). The Pentax Optio W20 meets the JIS Class 8 waterproof standard, which makes it able to withstand 30 minutes of usage at a depth of 1.5 meter. So this means that you can indulge in some underwater photography without frying the camera! There is a handy Image Recovery function which retrieves accidentally erased pictures and the Face Recognition AF & AE technology which detects the position subject’s face anywhere in the photo frame. The camera has 25 shooting modes, 15 playback modes and is PictBridge, DPOF, Exif Print, and PRINT Image Matching III compatible.

The website concludes "If you need a camera that can withstand immersion in water, your choices are basically limited to the Pentax Optio W20 or the Olympus mju 725 SW that I reviewed last week. The Pentax is cheaper, smaller, takes slightly better pictures, and looks more like a normal compact than the Olympus, but lacks the shock-proof credentials."
