Pictures From Space: Jupiter Over The Mediterranean
This may not be so much a picture FROM space as it is a picture OF space, but still, it’s so very awesome that it needs to be mentioned. This was taken last year and found on the Astronomy Picture of the Day site via the NOAA. The shot was taken in Turkey, near the Mediterranean Sea.
That light you see in the center there? That’s a lighthouse. That serves as a great relative indicator of the size of this picture overall, which looks to extend for miles in either direction. Jupiter, meanwhile, is that huge bright dot in the upper left.
It’s hard not to look at a picture like this and feel a little small yourself, knowing that the world around you is a whole lot wider than you ever expected, but that’s half the point of taking pictures–to help remind you of the little things.
