Pictures From Space–The California Wildfire

This’ll just KILL you, folks–by now you’ve probably heard about the huge California wildfire that’s only about five percent contained and looking to make a run on Los Angeles.  Well, here’s the most unbelievable and most horrifying detail about it all.

It can be SEEN FROM SPACE.

Over one hundred thousand acres in size, pictures from Nasa’s Terra satellite show the wildfire’s huge smoke plumes as they drift slowly upward into the sky.  When you hear ” a hundred thousand acres”, that sounds pretty impressive, but once it sinks in that this can be seen from space, then it goes from the merely impressive to the downright blood-curdling.

Even worse, take a look at how close those fires are to Los Angeles according to that Nasa pic.  It looks like just a stone’s throw away, doesn’t it?  Thankfully, it looks as though the fire is heading west and north, so Los Angeles may be spared, but still–when you talk about fighting a fire in terms of how many acres of water you’re going to drop on it, you know this is no small thing.
