Pictures From Space–The Horsehead Nebula
Wow. Sometimes you can’t help but look up and see the incredible things that are lurking just past breathable air on Earth. Of course, sometimes you can’t see some of these incredible things because you live in the wrong place or you had lousy weather conditions or what have you. But check out this incredible shot of the Horsehead Nebula.
This shot, taken by an entrant in the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition, is one of over five hundred entrants this year, and illustrates one of the stranger phenomenon in the universe, a nebula that naturally takes on the appearance of a horse’s head.
Frankly, that really is an awesome picture–and so far, it’s going to have some pretty stiff competition if it plans to win this year. I’ve seen some of the other entrants–don’t worry, you’ll get to see them too–and they’re downright amazing. They come from all over, from the Northern Lights all the way out to Centaurus A. There’s a lot of cool pictures out in space, or even looking down at Earth FROM space, and you know where to find them–right here.
