Polaroid Bringing Back The Instant Camera
Oh wow. This was a really sweet piece of news. Seems that Polaroid’s decided that, in these days of multiple megapixel digital cameras, there’s still a place for that old instant camera that’s so iconic it even gets featured in songs.
Shake it like a Polaroid picture, and all like that.
But anyway, the company’s looking to bring the technology back, and this is what they had to say about it:
The company’s Web site said they will produce limited edition products under the Polaroid brand next year as well as launch their own film line. “When a once-successful company finally gives up on a technology, that’s not to say that a smaller operation that targets a much smaller market can’t bring the product back,” said IBISWorld senior analyst George Van Horn. “It says something about modern days when good ideas can still live on in various forms and various stages.”
But…why? Why bring this back out of the freezer to try and compete with the megapixel monster? Maybe they’re hoping to get some nostalgia mileage. One thing’s clear–I’m not hearing a whole lot of reasons as to why, and I’m not coming up with a whole lot myself. So what’s driving this, anyway?
