Red Light Camera Watch Continues–On To Memphis

Well folks, for those of you who thought that the land of Elvis and country music would never go so low as to install red-light traffic cameras, I’m sad to announce that that is not the case.

Lawsuits going after the red-light cameras, which enforce even the tiniest of law without discretion of any sort, are popping up all over the country.  Allegations that this is simply the last desperate maneuver of a desperate local government trying to pick the pockets of motorists fly thick and furious, and are denied almost as thickly and furiously.  Plus, we get the added fun of government doubletalk like THIS!

“The whole system, the cost of the monitoring and everything will be paid for by violators. It’s not a revenue builder. It will generate some revenue but its purpose is to make people slow down and not run through red lights,” said Davis.

It’s not a revenue builder…but it will build revenue. That’s like saying your head is on fire, but it’s not.

How the lawsuits will turn out is anyone’s guess, but you know we’ll keep an eye on it.
