Red Light Cameras Gain Ground Elsewhere–Add Extra Fines

Sometimes, following the whole red light camera / traffic camera issue is a lot like trying to squeeze a balloon full of sand.  You squeeze one side and it expands on the other.  Then you try to squeeze that one and it all expands outward elsewhere.

And that’s an especially apt anecdote when it comes to dealing with the city of Phoenix, Arizona, who recently set up provisions that anyone ticketed by a red light camera would have to pay an ADDITIONAL twenty dollar fine.

This is actually in Maricopa County, home of the infamous sheriff Joe Arpaio, the guy you see screaming about Mexicans every few days on the various talking head news programs.  At the bottom you’ll find video of one of his finer screaming rants. Arpaio didn’t have much to say about the camera costs, but the word is they’re doing it to “offset increased court costs”.

Probably because everybody and his mother fights these ridiculous tickets because they have absolutely no sense of mitigating circumstances, which is the biggest reason I personally find these things an absolute joke.
