Samsung Digimax S850 Digicam

Samsung is in over-drive mode and surely don’t believe in moderation! Another new camera to be launched by the company is the Samsung S850, a compact point-and-shoot digital camera. The S850 is an eight megapixel camera with a 5x optical zoom lens and a comprehensive feature set.

The digicam has shutter speeds up to an effective 1/2000 sec and an ISO equivalent of 1600, making it versatile and giving users the option to photograph in low light conditions and also helps them in fast moving subjects. This one too has the proprietary ASR image stabilization system which is known to reduce camera shake and image blur during longer exposures.

The S850 has a whole bunch of manual controls and users can also make use of aperture priority, shutter priority and manual modes, continuous shooting and AEB, which are generally found on DSLRs. The S850 features dedicated modes for shooting situations including Children (with a high shutter speed to freeze motion while avoiding blur), Backlight (to compensate for a rear-lit subject), and Portrait (to bring the subject into strong focus while de-emphasizing the background).

Other features found on the S850 include; Movie mode which captures video in one of four resolutions, from 320×240 to 800×592, at up to 30 frames per second and encoded in AVI MPEG-4 format, 2.5″ TFT LCD screen, 20 megabytes of internal memory etc. The digicam comes bundled with USB 2.0 cable, and CD-ROM containing Samsung’s Digimax Master software (compatible with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and Macintosh OS X 9.2 through 10.4 and should be available in the spring of 2007.
