Samsung SMX F34 Camcorder Review–Low Grade Camcorder

I don’t get too many opportunities to tangle with Samsung cameras and camcorders and such–I don’t know if they just don’t get around much or what, but usually I find all the other brands first.  So I was definitely looking forward to trying out–and writing about–a Samsung SMX F34 if for nothing else than the novelty value.  But the more I tried this one out, the more I couldn’t stand the thing.

The Samsung SMX F34 is camcorder with a 42x zoom, featuring Samsung’s Intelli-zoom.  It’s compatible with SD, MMC,  and SDHC memory, has sixteen gigs of internal flash memory (which is roughly the same as four entire DVDs), web and mobile shooting modes to make online video sharing a snap.  It also has a swivel hand grip and a 2.7 inch LCD monitor.

The clarity on this thing at long range is plain old horrible.  I don’t know where they get off talking about their “42x zoom” but I’ve seen 2x that’ll get clearer farther.  I wouldn’t trust this thing at a range any farther than about thirty feet.  So if you need to record something from the stands, forget about this one,  In fact, it’d probably be a good idea to forget about the Samsung SMX F34 altogether.
