Samsung GX-1S Review

When Samsung announced its first DSLR, it as expected created a lot of buzz. The Samsung Digimax GX-1S was touted to be another affordable DSLR .Now the website PopPhoto have done a review of it and let’s see what the experts have to say. First they give the DSLR brownie points for its design which also bears a resemblance to the Pentax DSLRs. Image quality is also given a thumbs up and so is the 10 MP image sensor. However the auto-focus mode was a bit slow and one can’t help notice the image noise at higher levels.
The Samsung Digimax GX-1S is a result of collaboration with Pentax and offers a resolution of 6 Mega Pixel. It would be compatible with all Pentax KAF-mount lenses and Schneider's D-Xenon series lenses. The kit includes a a Schneider f/3.5-5.6 18mm-55mm (28mm-84mm, 35mm-equivalent focal length) lens. ISO settings range from 100 to 1600 and controls include, a power switch, a mode selection dial, a an exposure compensation control, and a status LCD. One will be exposed to a whole range of priority and manual modes, auto bracketing, drive modes, adjustable ISOs (from 100 to 1600 in one-stop increments), three metering modes, and RAW format.
The review ends by saying " As far as introductions go, Samsung could’ve done far worse than the GX-1S, with its nice handling, pleasing picture quality, and compatibility with scads of existing lenses. But it’s also an aging platform whose resolution trails that of the rest of the league. And in the hot DSLR category, “good enough” is rarely good enough. If you want to save $100 on a Samsung DSLR, you can opt for the Digimax GX-1L, which is, as you may have guessed, essentially the Pentax *ist DL (actually, the overseas-only *ist DL2)."
