San Francisco Owes Ticket Recipients Money

Excuse me while I try valiantly to rise above the intense feelings of schadenfreude that I’m having for the San Francisco government.

Seems they recently put in those horrible red light cameras in a bid to raise more money promote public safety and well-being, and they brought in about a million bucks in fines too!

And everything was going great, until they realized, whoopsie-doodle!  They forgot to RATIFY THE CONTRACT AT THE CITY COUNCIL LEVEL!

From the newly elected mayor, who likely won’t be mayor much longer at this rate:

“It’ll take a lot of staff time to undo this,” said newly elected Mayor Mark Addiego. “It’s a nightmare. It’s embarrassing, but we have to unravel this.”

See, they have to go back over tickets that were issued as far back as AUGUST of last year in order to straighten this out.  Plus the recipients of the tickets have to be refunded as the tickets are, technically, invalid.

So a little victory for everyone out there who hates those stupid cameras as much as I do.
