Pretty soon now, police in the city of San Jose will be issued ear-mounted cameras to serve as a visual record of evidence for pretty much any time they do pretty much any thing.

The cameras come courtesy of Taser International and fall under the brand name of Axon cameras.  They will be issued to seventy two officers in the San Jose police department later this month or possibly early into next month.  Not only will they serve as evidence in the event of hearings, but they’ll also function as a way to help officers write better reports.

I’m personally all in favor of anything that helps keep the very, very few bad cops out there honest, and especially for anything that helps the good cops stay out of trouble they didn’t cause.  These cameras should do nicely, though it’d be sort of ironic if cameras made by Taser managed to catch malfeasance committed with Taser’s OTHER product line.
