Sanyo VPC-CG20BK Camcorder Review–Pistol Grip Unpleasantness
I’m growing to hate those tiny little pistol-grip camcorders. They just don’t offer the utility of full-sized camcorders, even if they charge the same as a full-sized model. And the Sanyo VPC-CG20BK is a sterling example of why I hate them so.
The Sanyo VPC-CG20BK is a pistol-grip camcorder with 5x optical zoom and 60x digital zoom to augment it, a 2.7 inch color LCD widescreen monitor, manual focus, dual digital image stabilization capability, night recording capability, in-camera editing features, still shooting capability, built-in stereo audio and USB, A/V and mini HDMI interfaces.
It’s hard to malign this camcorder, because it does try. It offers a lot of nice features, but the problem is that the performance is so very lacking. The range is more appropriate to a cell phone than a camcorder, and when you consider that Best Buy wants two hundred bucks for it, it’s not so hard to see that this just isn’t a good value at all.
You can do so much better than the Sanyo VPC-CG20BK that it’s hard to ever recommend such a thing…and thus, I won’t.
