Seattle Drivers, Listen Up–Red Light Cams Near Bellevue

Two new red light traffic cameras have just been installed–Monday, as a matter of fact–at two intersections on 148th Avenue.  The map at left is a Google map with the points plotted, thanks to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer blog.

For the next twenty-odd days–thirty as of Monday–anyone caught running that red light will get a warning ticket in the mail.  But after that, every subsequent catch is going to ding you for a whopping one hundred twenty four bucks.

Municipalities, folks, are getting downright desperate.  Cash is in short supply, taxes are falling off left right and center as people spend less and less and less.  So look for tactics like this to come out of the woodwork as local governments look for ways to patch up their budget shortfalls.

Because, as we all know, cutting back just ain’t an option these days.  Well, I shouldn’t say that…they ARE doing a better job than the FEDS are.  But thankfully, the feds don’t have traffic cameras….
