Nikon Capture NX Review

Nikon-Capture-NX.jpgThink Camera did a review of the Nikon Capture NX and love it for its features, its intuitive interface, its batching functions and the U-Point technology which lets you edit images like a pro without any complications. What they didn’t like was the software’s lack of clone tool and an average dust removal tool.

The Nikon Capture NX is the latest premium software from the stables of Nikon which lets you edit raw camera files. This new software is actually the replacement to the old favorite Nikon Capture software and has some additional features which were lacking in the previous version. The camera apart from supporting RAW files also lets you edit TIFF and JPEG files. The software is not free, however the website feels that the £120 is justified.

In the end Think Camera concludes by saying “So, would you buy it? A qualified “yes”. I'd like to see for myself just how good the U-Point technology is - because at the moment I simply can't believe anything could work that well! I'm a heavy Photoshop user but I can see ways that NX could save me a lot of time and disk space. I'd also like to check the speed of the application. In the past, Capture has been a rather sluggish program to use and depending on your platform you get used to seeing the egg timer or Apple's pizza wheel. On the demonstration machine, Capture NX seemed much quicker with files opening and rendering in a very small number of seconds. If this is true in a real world test then it is a major improvement. If these concerns were addressed and there was a spot editing tool then my name would already be on the list to buy it when it's available. “

Great website. I like the way you unify all the camera review websites into one place that I can easily check.
