Sony MCB1172

Sony has announced they have developed a “coin-sized” high definition camera module. Planned for use in industry and security, the 8.3-megapixel device is smaller than a £1coin measuring in at just 9.5 x 7.1mm. The “MCB1172″ from Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions Division is able to deliver 720p, 30fps video and also includes face detection, movie stabilisation, autofocus and motion autofocus.

There is also a high sensitivity mode and a slow-mo function, presenting 120fps in addition to the option of 16x zoom. The “MCB1172″ is now available for mass production and products with the module will likely enter the market later this year.
