Speed Cameras Gone In Arizona In 2010?

Apparently, in Arizona, people have been taking a rather interesting step to try and get speed cameras thrown out of the state–they’re not paying the tickets.

And this is leading Arizonan officials to start wondering if they shouldn’t just can the entire system.

See, there’s a whole lot of whammies working against the Arizonan system of red light cameras.  Here’s the rundown:

1. Like I said above, most people just plain old aren’t paying, and apparently the Arizonan government doesn’t seem to care.

2. Moreover, the governor of Arizona is on record as saying she “doesn’t like the program”.

3. Revenues are WAY off expectations, and not in a GOOD way, either.

4. There’s a growing citizen’s movement against traffic cameras–that’s pretty much generating point one.

Folks, it seems like Arizona’s taking back its intersections from the tyranny of cameras that have no discretionary authority whatsoever.  Nice work, Arizonans, and here’s hoping everybody else can follow suit!
