SquareTrade’s study for cameras under $300

An independent warranty provider known as SquareTrade has taken a survey of more than 60,000 new digital cameras (under $300) to see how they malfunction 2 years after purchase.
As you can see, Panasonic has the fewest reported failures, while Casio had the most. By the way, I recently broke my Casio camera. Here is some other results of the study:
10.7 percent of digital cameras fail within two years, and 15.6 percent are projected to fail within three years; accidents account for slightly less than 40 percent of camera failures
This data doesn’t look so good for point-and-shoots under $300.
