Kodak’s Next Target? Apple and RIM

Kodak’s lawsuit machine roars on, fueled by a high-test combination of earlier wins and settlement money rolling in.  And who’s in the crosshairs this time?

Why, none other than Apple and Research in Motion, otherwise known as the crew who brought you the iPhone and the Blackberry, respectively.

Pretty much any company that makes a cell phone with a camera is going to be fodder for one of these lawsuits sooner or later, as apparently, most every camera phone uses technology that was proprietary to Kodak but apparently somehow managed to get out.  Thus, camera phones involve technology that’s a copyright infringement for everybody BUT Kodak.

Samsung and LG just recently lost their own runs to Kodak, so it definitely doesn’t bode well for Apple and RIM.  Kodak, for their part, is being extremely civil about the whole thing, having “tried for years” to work out a solution with the infringers, and even now that they’re suing they aren’t looking to “stop sales” of the products.

But after how the last two turned out, I can’t imagine Apple and RIM beating this particular rap.
