Sony HDR XR200V Camcorder Review–Good, If Pricey

Sony’s camcorders have almost always treated me right.  I’ve had lots of good experiences with them, and even though they cost a pretty penny and beyond, they’re still good product.

The Sony HDR-XR200V camcorder boasts a one hundred twenty gig hard drive, a GPS receiver that can also geotag your videos, image stabilization systems, four megapixel still image capture, HDD Smart Protection against a dropped or damaged camcorder, map indexing, a 2.7 inch LCD display and a 15x optical zoom.

There’s a new feature in this camcorder that I felt deserved a little more mention, and that’s the camera’s geotagging capabilities.  This camera will actually ADJUST its own clock when you cross a time zone, and it can tell once again from the GPS.  I haven’t heard of very many camcorders that can do that so I wanted to call special attention to it.

Of course, considering that this camcorder lists for a thousand bucks (a third off on Amazon), it had better be able to do some incredible things.  It has an excellent range with small print being legible from over a hundred feet away, and the controls are easy enough to work with.  So if you’re prepared to shell out loads of cash, you could do much worse than the Sony XR200V.
