But there’s a grieving father who begs to differ.

So the current sheriff of Pinal County in Arizona, a guy with the thoroughly unlikely name of Paul Babeu, believes that red light cameras don’t actually save any lives.  He says:

“Guess what? They (accidents) have decreased all across America and the majority of America doesn’t use photo safety.”

But for grieving father Frank Hinds, who lost his daughter in a traffic accident ten years ago to a man who ran a red light, red light cameras might at least kind of help.  He said:

“These folks who are protesting the way they are to do away with the cameras, I doubt whether any of them have experienced the kind of loss I have and other members of our group have.”

This is little more than a flimsy straw man argument–after all, it’s hard to fight when people like a county sheriff come out with crime statistics, especially if all you’ve got to counter it is a ten year old personal anecdote.  Don’t get me wrong, most everybody out there who isn’t a sociopath is sorry for his loss.  But to stick to the camera system when it’s so clearly not helping is just a bad move.
