Today, OminVision unveils a new 5-megapixel solution for the DSC/DV market with the OV5653. It is based on the company’s latest 1.75 micron OmniBSI technology which aims to deliver the industry’s best low-light sensitivity of >1400mV/(lux-sec) and a 2x improvement in signal-to-noise ratio.

The OV5653 delivers 720p at 60 frames per second (fps) and full HD 1080p at 30 fps, resulting in vivid still and video images, even in the most challenging lighting conditions.

With the demand for better resolution and the turn towards full HD capabilities, this new offering from OmniVision certainly makes it all worthwhile to push the stakes up as far as quality images are concerned.

“Demand for full-HD quality images and video in pocket sized cameras is on the rise, as more and more consumers share content over the Internet,” said Devang Patel, senior staff product manager of DSC Marketing at OmniVision. “Our OV5653 is ideally suited for this type of application that requires superior image quality and low power consumption in a small form factor.”

The OV5653 is now available for sampling and will be officially available by the second half of the year.
