The Tale of a Camera Lost At Sea

You know those stories about a faithful dog or cat that crosses the country, sometimes thousands of miles, to be reunited with its owner?  Well, today, I’ve got a story that’s kind of like that but not quite so heartwarming.  And it’s about a camera.

So this couple was out on the deck of the now out of service QE2 cruise ship, posing for some pictures.  The got some great pictures from the ship’s last-ever run, and then they went back to THEIR ship, the QM2.  They were about to take a picture of some passing dolphins when the camera takes a funny bounce out of the photographer’s lap and winds up taking a splash.  It sinks to the bottom of the Atlantic.

So the pictures are gone, right?  No great pictures from the last run of the QE2.

But later, a Spanish fishing vessel drags up its nets and what do they find?  A camera.  With FIVE pictures in tact on its memory card.

The camera is eventually reunited with its owner, and five pictures recovered to boot.  This just goes to show the importance of keeping your camera on a strap, especially while out at sea, and how incredibly durable a memory card can be.

Though I don’t recommend sinking yours in several hundred feet of salt water, or possibly more.
