The World Series Was Altered By A Camera

You know, we talk a lot about cameras here, and about the incredible power of photography.  We talk about pictures from space, powerful images from all over the world, and a whole host of other things.

Today, we’re going to talk about how a camera did horrendous things to the third game of the World Series.  Check out this play by play and see if you don’t see anything…unusual.

* * Johnny Damon flied out to center.
* * Mark Teixiera walked.
* * Alex Rodriguez doubled to right, Teixiera to third.
* * Jorge Posada grounded out to shortstop.
* * Robinson Cano fouled out to catcher.
* * End of inning. (2 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors.)
Did you catch that”  Either a ground out to the shortstop or a foul out to the catcher brought in TWO RUNS.  As it turns out, it was Robinson Cano’s foul out that brought those runs in–he fouled it off a television camera behind him.  And it took long enough, as a result, to let two runs come in.

The cameras were moved back for the next game, but it remains, that there’s a good chance the course of the entire World Series was altered by one camera.
