Three Great Camera Predictions From CES

I know that headline’s kind of oblique, but believe me, the advance warning out of CES isn’t a whole lot better.  In fact, it’s downright creepy, because it covers so many different waterfronts.  Here’s the advance word from the crew at CES:

1. The pocket camcorder gets smaller, better, and completely bad-ass.

You know I’m not a big fan of those Flip camcorders, but apparently, the next generation will be something to see.  Better and more features, better and more options, and without huge price jumps.  That’s a combination to reckon with.

2. Cameras go video with hot-swappable lenses.

If you love the Swiss Army Knife and wish it could apply to cameras too, well, your ship is in, folks–regular ordinary digital cameras are looking to get kitted out with multiple lenses and enhanced video capability.

3. Pocket cameras go long-range.

You know how I’m always moaning about how small cameras never have great zoom compared to camcorders?  Well, apparently, the days of 3x and 4x zoom being standard are rapidly coming to an end–if CES is any indication, 10x is looking to be the standard of the day.

So that’s three big predictions from the crew out at CES–how much of it will come to pass remains to be seen, but this could be the start of something big.
