Tonchidot Gets Four Million Bucks To Make Tagging Service
So here’s an interesting bit of camera business news for you, folks–apparently the Japanese company Tonchidot just got four million bucks in venture cap to try and set up their photo tagging service.
In case you’re not familiar with a photo tagging service, let me give you the rundown.
Picture tagging is a lot like blog tagging, in that it allows small chunklets of reference text to be installed in a picture. If you were to take a picture of, say, a McDonalds where you and your friends go every Friday night before you go out to party, you might tag it with your friends’ names or something about the place, or pretty much anything like you might tag a blog post. It also “lets users browse and share user-generated text, photos, voice and other location-based information”.
It’s an interesting enough concept, especially in light of a growing social media economy, where you can take pictures and put them up online literally seconds later. So here’s hoping Tonchidot can make something good out of that four million bucks.
