My mother is an inveterate traffic watcher.

Whenever we go someplace–me and my mom and dad–and one of us needs to stop somewhere that mom doesn’t want to go into, she’ll inevitably ask that we park facing the nearest available road so she can “watch traffic”.  I’m starting to wonder if maybe I have a good gift idea in the form of Xtreme Labs’ World Traffic Camera Lite software.

Especially since it’s a free download!  But what this does is really interesting–basically, it allows your mobile device to tap into various publicly accessible camera feeds.

This serves several useful purposes, like getting a look at traffic conditions wherever you plan to go, or just like my mother, allowing you to sit back and “watch traffic” from anywhere you can get a publicly accessible feed.  It might be useful to have that advance look ahead at any potentially problematic intersection, but aside from that, it’s not exactly a huge draw.
